Cycle computer mystery

My Cateye Velo 8 (less than a year old) has been playing silly buggers. Bizarrely it doesn't register any speed or anything for the first 15 mins of my ride to work but then starts working perfectly normally. On the way back something similar happens. This is not effected by the weather.
Last week it no longer showed any speed at all - but next week it may well randomly start working again.
The magnet is set right because i can hear the tick tick sound, the battery is fine as the display is bright and working and i have reset the display unit and short circuited the holder as recommended on the instructions but with no joy.
As i won it in a competition it's not so simple to take it back to the shop and ask for another one.

It's all a bit weird - any ideas of what the hell is wrong with it??

Thanks
amc

is it wireless. maybe the start and end of your ride passes by some kind of interfeance, pylons phone mast etc.

It's wired which is why it's such a mystery.

    Have emailed Cateye.

If it's electrical interference (which can still affect wired setups), you can test for this by seeing if it affects you when you're coming from the other direction (ie coming home). A zone of high interference that covers the area you travel for 15mins is unlikely to exist at both ends of your journey!

If you get the same fault every time no matter where you start from, it's a problem either with the device or there is something strange going on with your bike. Is there something you do at the start of each ride to prep the computer, or otherwise might change the arrangement of the reciever/fork etc in some way? Something that would work its way loose after a few minutes riding?

If you can, set it up on another bike and see if you still get the issue. If so, it's definitely time to get a new computer (or warranty replacement...Good luck with that).
