In the scheme of things not the most important thing in the world but was curious when you replace bar-tape if you :-

1) Try for 5mins to remove the adhesive, bits of foam and other residue and slap on the new tape OR

2) Spend forever with nail varnish remover etc trying to make your bars look 'as new' then replace tape

I'm a bit OCD so usually opt for option 2 but am thinking my 'clean' obsession is going a bit far now !!!!
I like shiny bikes - especially Italian ones.....!!

Number one works for me :-) Get them reasonably clean but not "as new".

What? You remove the old bar tape before fitting new?

Heh heh. Almost worth starting a poll. I spent about 15 minutes gettings the bars absolutely spangly but Fizik Microtape is quite thin so figured it wouldn't hide too many bumps.

simple - just put a layer of electrical tape on the bars before fitting the bar tape. you know it makes sense...

Agree on electrical tape - means changing the tape is a doddle
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

  • Mr Sheen (Citrus) is pretty good at cleaning light bar tape. ;)

My Fuji came with White bar tape and while it looks great for a few hours afterwards it started to look grubby and annoy me (I also have a small OCD issue) so after much Google time found that tip and used it till I could afford to replace it with some Black and Red Fizik stuff, which owns. :D

I'd never go back to white bar tape...
