Assos Tights - Advice

I've bought some Assos Intermediate Tights (LL607 S5) from Ribble which arrived today. I'm 5' 11", so according to the various sizing guides for Assos I saw on the net, I ordered the XL. I tried them on tonight and the length is perfect. They are a bit tight on the shoulders when standing up, but I understand that's normal.

The issue is that, in addition to a height range for each size, there's also (according to the user guide in the box) a weight range as well. To wear the XL, the user guide suggests a weight of 85KG or less, which is a problem for me because I weigh 98KG. They don't feel massively tight around my stomach, they certainly don't feel like they'll explode if I breathe out!

I really don't want to get the XLG as there will be loose material on my legs.

What should I do? Keep them, continue with my diet and accept any further weight loss will ease any strain on the seams etc, or send them back and consider another option?

  • I too recently bought some Assos LL bib tights

Im taller and skinnier than you and got the L

As expected they are tight when standing but OK when Im crouched on the bike

Length wise they fit me fine

But if you bought mail order you have a window to return for a full refund without hassle so why not just buy the bigger size too and see which one you like the fit of better?

I could send them back, but Ribble don't sell XLG. It'll cost another £25 or so to get a pair in XLG from a competitor. Not a game stopper by any means though if you think it's worthwhile.

I'm 6' 2" and 89kg with a 36 inch waist, XLG fit me spot on... Don't know what your waist is but there is a height difference there that could mean they are too long in the leg for you?

Thanks for that Mark. My waist is 36" also.

I think that's the issue, I really don't want 3" of loose material on my legs. Unless it wouldn't be loose of course, the legs seem quite stretchy.

I'm sending my XL back, I'll try the XLG.

Just for another data point - I'm 6' and 95kg with a 33" waist XL fit me fine.

Sit on bike. Get someone to check you out from behind.
If they can see your bumcrack - then you need the next size up.

Can't you decide whether they fit you and whether you feel comfortable in them, who cares what the instructions say!

I don't get this really. If they don't feel too tight they are fine. The weight guide is, well, a guide... Everyone is a different shape. Gravitational effects on the integrity of the seams will be distinctly minimal.

Most important thing is that they fit correctly around the thighs and crotch, they are not so loose that they are wrinkling significantly or so tight that they are uncomfortable and/or restricting movement.

Wot neeb said +1. I think you'd be mad sending them back if the ones you have are a good fit.
