Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my brakes, money is tight so i'm looking at only buying the XTR cantis.
With this in mind, will any V brake compatible lever work with the XTR cantilevers?

Thanks in advance

Yep. Though the Shimano levers operate Servo Wave, where the leverage adjusts throughout the stroke. This gives a lot of pad clearance, then progressively more power.

I actually prefer Avid Speed Dial 7 though.

Not all V levers will work as the amount of cable pull is different. Speedial/ servowave are adjustable.
Why not buy Avid V's as well. Or even XT/XTR V's. Better than cantis.

so here whe have an interesting use of terms.

what XTR brakes are you looking at?

Liner pull V brakes or the older style Cantilevers?

I guess the V´s the same as Sonic has.

  • To clarify, will a new set of XTR V brakes work with any V brake compatible brake lever.
I have an old pair of Deore V Brake levers.

I know MTB/touring/cyclocross used and still use cantilever brakes, but technically a V brake is still a cantilever i.e. a structure that is supported at only one end.

DIfferent leverage in many cases. Luckily I assumed you were on about V brakes
