Meanwhile in the Tirreno-Adriatico, seems that second climb has split up the peloton, with a first group about to catch the day's break-away with 44 kms to go. I think Cavendish in a second group?

    Cavendish group back, mostly because the peloton took it really easy after that van-incident

    Watched the Italian tv coverage from 78kms.
    That climb was quite stiff and the hammer was down, spreading the field all over the hill.
    Hence Cav's longish chase.

    I'd love to be proved wrong but MSR looks like it's going to come along a bit too soon for Cav this year.

    He was clearly carrying a bit of timber at the start of the year (for a pro cyclist), maybe he's focussed more on The Tour/Worlds.

    If he isn't, one imagines that reason might be trotted out soon.

    Either that, or he's playing rope a dope again like he did in 2009.
