Hi got a friend with a team saracen havoc the first model looks very old and dated, told him to get new bike but not having it.Anyway his front shocks dont work to freely anymore and neither of us know much about mtb's so what forks should we be looking at, he will be looking at a used pair as he does very little riding.

Can we have a pic of the bike please?
If I remember rightly this bike had a RST 381 fork in yellow with V brakes, about 80mm of travel, and a standard threadlesss steerer.0 -

any ideas?0

£100! thats why i suggested used. What brand and model should he look at for light trail riding nothing too seriuos.0

SO it's an RST 381, with 80mm of travel and V brake bosses, with a 1 1/8th threadless steerer
Your new fork MUST have the bosses for the V brakes.

Thanks supersonic didnt think he would get new forks for that money.0

These are probably better:

100mm of travel will still work fine.0 -
so 100mm travel forks will suit too? or will he have to replace the rear too?and if he does replace the rear is it like for like or should he go longer? and do you measure between the fixing eyelets?0
-
Don't bother with the rear, you cannot change that, but 20mm longer forks are no problem.0
-
ok is that because its not cost effective or there is no part that fits?0
-
Because rear suspension cannot be increased without compromising the design drastically.0
-
ah ok.I sent the like of the forks to my mate and looks like ive been dug myself a hole!!now he wants his whole bike resprayed white and black (more hard work for me)0
-
Might be cheaper and better just to get a new bike lol. The Havoc is 13 years old now, and I bet many other parts need replacing.0

tell me about it.But to be fair he does have it serviced every year and doesnt want to get rid as it used to be his dads bike and he is no longer with us so its kind of a sentimental thing.0

I have my late brother's guitar, but the nut is broken on it. Rather than spending money on a cheap Squier Strat, which really only has sentimental value, I bought myself a new one, but kept my brother's as a keepsake.0 -

For how little he rides a bike its not worth getting a new one in his eyes.He rides motorbikes and only gets his mtb out when the sun shines and decides he is a fat git and needs to get fit!! which last's about a week usually.0 -
