Packing kids bike for flight

My family are off on hols this summer and we want to take our eldest son's bike with us (he's 4 in July) as it will extend his range on walks etc and allow us to get out and about far more.

Any ideas how I'm going to pack it? Airline just say use a bike bag but the only ones I've seen are for adult bikes and they cost a fortune.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

We had the same thought when we vacationed in Florida last year. It turned out to be cheaper to rent a bike there so that's what we did. Good luck!

Go to your local bike shop and get a cardboard box the bike comes in. With a spanner and an allen key, and a bit of padding, and a heap of tape, you'll have yourself a makeshift bike box that'll do the job.

Good shout. Cheers. Yeah knocking up a quick self made bike box sounds like a good idea, but I'll certatinly ask at the LBS to see if they have any to chuck out.
