Anyone play CS1.6? If so, do you know any decent servers that would be good for new players? Just started playing, but everyone seems to be pro or something pulling off headshots non-stop on me.

Or anyone wanna teach me how to play lol

Haven't played that in a few years. Good luck finding a n00b server. All the hardcore folk stayed on 1.6 as they preferred it to CS Source. Either play Source instead (though even now I'd guess that the folk there are all pretty good at it too) or improve so you don't get killed every time (though how many of these people are using wall hacks or aimbots?)

  • Very true, I figured since somehow most of the times I die seem to be luck for people, i'll just download wall hacks and everything as well. Went from 1-30 in most games to now 30-10 or so.

    Ah cheats are good.

Download them and I'll boo you. No satisfaction to be had from cheating

Only levels the playing field if everyone is already using them :D

LMAO cant believe there are CS gamers in here

played since 1.3 (1.5 is the best it is it is it is) converted to CS:S 2004 apathy kicked in early 2010

cadred.org still has a reasonable 1.6 scene, but if you never been in there beware of the trolls :D

There are fewer people cheating than you think. The facts are that there are plenty of players who pull off seemingly impossible headshots all day long and not a cheat to be seen. Back in CS early days I was one of those players myself. Too old and too busy and too bored of Counter Strike to play at that level these days though.

I still fire up CS:Source from time to time but it is fairly rare these days. Bad Company 2 is the game for me right now.

CS peaked around v1.3 for me.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I would echo that to an extent. Never underestimate people's obsession with online gaming. I was also at a decent level back in the day (though played more TFC and was better at that). You did get a lot of cheaters as well but you would get a feel for what servers were better than others for that.

Would agree though that BBC2 is pretty much the greatest online shooting experience going just now

well i was a big bf2 fan, as much as i loved BC2 it didnt hold my attention as long because the maps are so small.

as well as decent graphics the big leap with BC2 was the sound, if you havent, get a soundcard and play wartapes, at first i was cringing when bullets were ricocheting next to me :P

hopefully BF3 will be a proper battlefield game again
  • The battlefield series is quite good, only played the xbox versions when I had an xbox. but loved it!

I don't think it has to be obsession really. There's plenty of people who've been playing shooters for years, who naturally just get better and better and better.

I'm going to get a mate to ship me the PS3 version of BC2 as I am needing a fix of it (PC would explode if it tried to run it). The trailer for the new Battlefield looks a bit Call of Duty-ish (although new graphics engine looks scarily good). Hoping they retain the giant maps and vehicles though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA378g_gD1I is the trailer for the new one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNwih-yx020 is actually a better video to watch (not related to Battlefield 3 though)

Nope. I'm planning on building a rig later this year but right now I have two laptops (a Dell with a dodgy fan and an ancient Vaio which I prefer to the former). Had a desktop back in UK but sold it before I left. My gaming these days is either on xbox 360 or PS3

And while you're correct about people getting better as they play casually for years I can assure you there are quite a few mentals with nothing better to do than spend hours every day perfecting conc/rocket jumps. If they weren't playing they'd be on IRC arranging matches

  • That's very true about the supernerds, some people really do spend their whole day with things related to the game.

Well I seem to be getting the hang of it a bit, things are not destroying me too bad!

Depends what you mean by shoot through walls.

    1. Map exploits - knowing where the glitches are in the walls/floors etc. Frowned upon.
    2. Wall damage - standing close to a wall/door will still get you shot from the other side. This is fine.
    3. Wall hacks which allow you to shoot through walls. Cheating.

  • I'm slowly getting there, never got any cheats anyways.

But man, how can people get so good with this mouse malarchy. I'm struggling on a serious level. That and I have no idea how to play this game haha.

If I had a decent computer I would just get MW2 and Black Ops, but I don't so i'm going to have to learn this.

If you play a few hours a day, in some 2-3 months you'll be pretty much on the top.
CS has the most easy aiming, and not much of a recoil, or a bullet spread if you hold the fire button.
It's easy to kill someone with a headshot from a long distance.

Bad thing is that on some servers there are kids as admins, and that's why I was
banned from half the servers I played, before I quit. They just can't take a defeat.

no no no thats the big thing that seperates 1.6 from css, in 1.6 you can wall bang ie shoot through a lot of walls, it takes skill and is part and parcel of the 1.6 game

wall hacks allow you to see through the walls not change there physical properties.

Wall banging is not quite the same as shooting through walls or exploiting map glitches - the power of your shots is reduced in a wall bang - due to the wall itself. Not all guns in CS can wallbang either.

I agree that wall hacks are generally concerned with allowing players to see through them but IIRC there have bee a few hacks over the yeard which allowed players to shoot through them unrestricted as well.

lol I always said when i was done with cs and css that i was going to multihack to the hilt, speed hacking and aimbotting through every populated public server on my fave list raging everyone i met till i got bored

i had a couple of multihacks for moviemaking sv_pure bypass for custom decals etc

then steam became really good and is the home of every game on my pc and you gotta keep that account squeaky clean :(
  • Well guys, seems like I have found a server that has people of the same skill level as me. I managed to go 12-6 on one of the games, and the rest were also positive today, so i'm happy to report i'm picking it up pretty quick.

Does anyone still play, and want to be friends on there. Would be cool to have some other people to play together. I'm running steam also if anyone uses that!

Never played counterstrike, but it got me thinking, a forum DOOM deathmatch could be a giggle. It's not like anyone here has a machine that's not capable of running it either.

Probably, yeah. Isn't it on the iPhone as well?

Ahh Counter Strike many a late night at uni was spent playing that instead of doing any actual work. Best FPS i've ever played and that includes all the CODs!

I have to say I don't enjoy gaming on phones. Touchscreens just aren't suited to most types of games
