Crown races

Are crown races specific to each headset? or can you use any crown race with any headset?
I have a set of forks with the crown race already fitted and a new frame thats coming with the heaset already fitted, so I'm wondering will I have to remove the crown race off the forks and put on the race that comes with the headset in the frame?
I'm a lazy git, so if I don't have to remove the difficult race I'd be happy if I could use it with the new headset.
I'm a newbie to bike building
thanks peeps,

Are specific - though certain ones do share the same design.

Hows the best way to swap em over without making a mess of the steerer tube?...hammer, screwdriver and a good aim I suppose lol

I put my crown race on with a rubber mallet and a small block of wood with a 90 degree squared flat end. If you use a screwdriver, it's bound to slip & damage either fork leg or the race itself, not worth the risk.
A bit of patience, working round the race as you hammer, steadily but firmly, will see you fine.0
