Pinnacle 14 / video editing problem

Bloody tits!!!
I've made a lovely (crap) bike vid for the first time and can't solve a strange error. Here goes:
I line up all the scenes, stick a fade-in transition between them and the fade copies a tiny bit but of the scene - repeating the previous half second when the transition starts. So you see a rider come in, then when the transition starts he skips back a half second and carries on as it fades out.
I've changed the transition and this solves the dilemma, but is the wrong fade. I've tried punching the question into google but I can't phrase it right - nothing relevant comes up.
Can anyone help?

As I said on the other thread it MIGHT be a timecode issue as I've had that problem myself but (although I teach Media Studies) I don't use Pinnacle so it might also be something about the way the app specifically deals with fades (especially if other transitions are working OK).
As you say Google doesn't seem to be much help - might be worth joining a Pinnacle users forum and asking?
slainte :?: rob0 -
Hi Rob, cheers for that - but I don't know what timecode is. I'm going to ask the IT teacher at our school and see if he knows.
I've just joined the Pinnacle forum to ask the question as well but, I feel bad asking on a forum I don't contribute too. At least here if anyone can help, I give back to the BR society. I'll see what they say.0 -
not a pinnacle user but im a bit handy with sony vegas and adobe production suite
when you say clips lined up, are you over lapping the clips? if you use two or more video layers and stagger them by your half second for the transition, making sure you have the transition to centre that should smoothly take you from clip 1 to 2.
It sounds like you have a linear transition on the end of clip 1 when the transition is completing it hasnt got to the new clip and its resuing the clip the transition is applied to.
best i can do without info, if it doesnt solve it maybe stick some screens up so we can have a look.
my preffered edting package is adobe prem pro, but you might want to consider vegas as there is a massive abount of tutorial sites, effects packages etc etc0 -
Sounds like a pinnacle issue.
I'm guessing (complete stab in the dark here) that maybe the clip is long enough to have a fade as long as you want, so pinnacle mucks around to give itself enough video to work with.0 -
what operating system are you using?
pinnacle 14 has issues with a few windows and there is a patch for it on the pinnacle forum.
i have issues with studio 11 running on windows 7 and vista, although it should be complient. also worth looking at processor speed and memory as pinnacle is very power hungry and will randomly crash and do wierd stuff if it cant have its own way.
ill try and find a forum i used who are helpful.....0 -
....... seems you already found it!
there are a few pinnacle programmers on there that should help.
good luck!0 -
Aaaah sorry guys. BikeRadar is sodding about at the moment and Isn't emailing me when there are respondants to a thread. I have to check back - even when the 'notify' box is ticked below.
I solved the issue by lining up all the clips without transitions and then rendering it. I then re-split the clip to add the transitions and heypresto, bob-is-your-transvestite-uncle-the-family-don't-talk-about,-but-who-you-alway- invite-over-to-pole-dance-for-your-mates-when-the-wife-is-out. Thanks to pinnacle forums for that one. I think it is a problem with the way the phone records video.
Thanks for the responses.
