I'm a beginner, just getting back in the saddle after many years and am very much looking forward to the arrival of my bike (hopefully this weekend). I think I'm going to need a few extras, and wondered if I might benefit from the experience of the kind people on this forum (thanks for the help in my bike decision thread btw!).
I'm not looking for high end kit, just bits that will cover the basics.
I'm looking for:
U-lock
Front/rear lights
Water bottle holder
Small pump
Tire repair kit
Bike computer
Mudguards
And possibly:
Helmet?
Tools?
Garage pump?
Chain?
Water bottle?
Oil?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Mudguards - raceblades, are light, low profile do the job and don't actually look to bad
Track Pump - Topeak joe blow max sport (£30ish look around)
Pump - topeak pocket rocket
helmet - specialized echelon something like that around £50 (has no visor though
Tools - grab a park tool multi tool or specialized e.m.t, have nearly everything you'll need be £20ish
Bike Computer - go for cateye, they have a huge price range and if something does go wrong it will be easy to locate spare parts. maybe get cateye lights for same reason, good value
hope this helps0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at those items.
A friend mentioned I might want bar ends, the Trek ones at Evans for £13 look decent?

edit - the raceblades don't look like they can cope with 35mm tires?0 -
I would get some full size mudguards, SKS Bluemels maybe.0

come the spring / summer you will need sun (protection) glasses, ones which will be able to change lens to cope will all weather conditions, i have a pair of Oakley Radar Pitch Polarised, which have 3 lens, so i,m able to wear all year round, but they are on the dear side, but if you look on chainreaction or wiggle you will find some good glasses with 3 lens from around 25 up.
hope this helps. darren0
