Socket down the inside and a hammer to knock it out.

Rear bolt on the shock, (I prefer to take the air our the shock too just to be safe) and swingarm bolts near the crank and it should slide back yes. Won't come off unless you remove cables/brake line
  • cheers :)
  • NO NO NO! Don't go hitting it with sockets for sanity's sake.

You leave the pinch bolts and blocks on the swingarm in. (you use these to extract the bearings) I've been building Rowan Sorrell's Orange bikes for the last 5 years, s I do know a little bit about how this works.
Remove the end caps, loosen one pinch bolt on one side of the swing arm. (doesn't matter which side, it'll become clear later)
Take a soft blow mallet and tap the swingarm on the side with the loosened pinch bolt.
Once you've knocked it across as far as it'll go, tighten the pinch bolt on that side and loosen the pinch bolt on the other side.
Tap the swingarm back to the other side as far as it'll go and repeat the process until the bearing is released from the stub axle that is WELDED ONTO THE DOWNTUBE.
This is the ELPR (enhanced lateral pivpot rigidity) system that Orange pioneered.

THERE IS NO REMOVABLE AXLE unlike other bike manufacturers, Orange like to ensure the alignment of their bikes isn't compromised by ill fitting spacers etc.

There's a vid on their website to show exactly how to do it.

  • If you've already smacked the bearing with a socket there a danger the earing will collapse when you try to remove it the correct way.

If this happens, you got big problems becaus it's a nightmare to removea fused iner race off the stub without the rest of the bearing to do it for you.
If you've done this on both sides, you're fecked.

Slacken both allen bolts(one either side of swingarm) holding in the wedges and gently tap the swingarm all the way over one way . Then tighten one of the allen bolts on the bearing and tap the arm back, this will move the bearing slightly forcing it outwards. Slacken off tap back, tighten and repeat. Do this 3 or 4 times and it will take the bearing off. Then repeat for the other side. The new bearings are installed the same way, ie using the allen bolt to pinch the bearing outer and tap the arm sideways.Undo the lower shock bolt and these bearings can be changed without removal of the arm and cables..Did mine this way.Good luck.

  • No worries fella, mine has many typos, so yours might be easier to follow. LOL.
No need to apologise for wanting to help a fellow MTBer. It's good to see someone that knows his stuff and is willing to take time to help.
    Good on ya fella.

Looks like I stand corrected on the 'proper' method. Apologies for a lot less detail about the process. (I still maintain it would work but the other way seems much more effective)
