No need to be part of a team to race. Check out XCRacer.com for races near you, think there's a northern series again now. There's a national race at Dalby next month, but that's potentially jumping in at the deep end!0

i did a few races 14 years ago just by turning up on the day and paying my fee to ride in a fun class. Not sure if the are still around. That's often a good way of giving it a go most importantly have fun0

Very few XC races force you to pre-enter, you can nearly always just turn up and ride. Enduros can be different, so check before.0

Here are some useful links: http://xcenduro.co.uk/links/links.asp
Here is a map of races near you including links to enter them: http://xcenduro.co.uk/racing/raceLocations.asp
There are a few articles about getting into racing on my site too: http://xcenduro.co.uk/racing/racing.asp
Plus some race reports if you're thinking of doing a race which has already been reported on. It's very easy to get into, the only decision is which race
You probably ought to consider the Nutcracker and Brownbacks series (see map on my site) and also the Whinlatter Challenge which is next weekend!
