Best place to sell a bike

I've just upgraded from a Trek 1.9 and so I'm thinking of selling it. I'd appreciate views (good and bad) on the experience with different outlets including the classified ads here and eBay in particular.

How do you handle the tricky things like someone asking to go for a ride on the bike? Seems reasonable, but if they don't come back... :(

I've bought and sold on ebay with very few problems as long as you're sensible. It does tend to be the luck of the draw to an extent though, I have seen sveral bidders fighing over second-hand stuff that goes for not much more than the new price, while at the same time I have picked-up bargains, though they tend to be few and further between.

The classified section here is worth a look and a mention for Gumtree if you live anywhere near London.

If someone wants a test ride then look after their car keys or wallet ;)

You're probably better off stripping the bike down and selling it all separately on Ebay, it's hard to put a value on a secondhand bike. You could spend £3500 building a bike and you'd struggle to get half that if you sold it the next day.

Interesting point. The bike has full Ultegra kit, so the bits might fetch some reasonable dosh.
