Garmin Edge 800 help please

I've got an 800 Edge and have been trying to work out how to use it with the limited information in Garmin's User Guide.

When I've tried to use the maps to follow a course, it doesn't tell me where to turn (in a car sat-nav type of way). If I leave it on the maps page it shows the map with a line to mark the route (that's quite difficult to see). I had hoped that it would let me look at one of the data screens and flash up any turns I should be making as and when.

Am I missing something or is the 800 not as good as I hoped it would be?

If you created your course in Base Camp and you are using City Nav maps it should give a bold arrow indicating turns. On one or more of the data fields you have set up (tools/bike settings/training pages/timer pages you can show "distance to next". This will give an indication in miles or km how far you are from turns. If you have auto zoom switched on (tools/system/map), it should zoom in at turns.

Thanks. I've made the changes and I'll test it out next time I'm out and about. I created the maps on bikeroutetoaster so hope they work from that.

A track will not give turn by turn directions, however if you right click on the track on base camp you get an option to change it to a route - this will give directions and prompts.
