So!
My mates press-fit 30 on his Stumpy Evo has destroyed itself....and in the process the Specialized custom size axle for it's carbon crank.
The press-fit 30 setup on my own Stumpy Evo sounds on its way out as well, so I am keeping a close eye on it. (Had a look inside and found it full of water.
We wreckon it is just the bad conditions we ride in (Dark Peak) but I have heard of the 'UK designed' Whyte 146 suffering the same problem.
Come back external bearing cups! (No conversion kit for Stumpy Evo though....)

Come back Octalink lol.
What happened to the axle?0 -
Not been able to see it unfortunately but from the sounds of itthe bearings collapsed and then chewed through a good portion of the axle - a right mess and completely ruined. Warranty replacement seems to be difficult too because of the axle size - none available. Trying to get a conversion kit and X0 triple crankset (converted to double and bash) but no bearing conversion kits compatible.
Yeah, good ol octalink!BUrN mY EyES0 -
That's a pretty bad failure.
Just put an Alivio chainset with Octalink on my Mongoose - not really any more flexy than my Hone HT2.0 -
Massive failure! Just waiting for mine to collapse......
Fresh parts feel good for sure. enjoy the reliability of simple construction. I envy you!BUrN mY EyES0 -
What bugs me is that it is supposed to be weather proof!BUrN mY EyES0

Specializeds interpretation of bad weather is when it drops to a chilly 25c, and a bit of dust comes up0

But you cant say the same for Whyte though?BUrN mY EyES0

I've seen Whyte's stickering skills lol. But true, as british brand, looks like a part that wasn't tested fully.0
