bet that got your attention...
My wife did her first big ride of the year today. 100km in 4hr 20min, with the final 10km slow due to riding through city traffic etc. Course was undulating with a few moderate climbs.
Basic questions - is this fast? What is the usual club standard for women?

Difficult to judge as one mans fast is another mans slow.
Think she did well in that time though, as for club standard I have no idea but I bet she wouldn't be far off0 -

Avg speed of 14(ish) mph?, no, not particularly fast.0 -

Is there a club standard for women? Surely they just tag along with the groups the same as the club standard for men?
Are you fast? Can she drop you? If she can she's fast. Are you slow? Can you drop her? then she's probably slow. Otherwise just ride your bikes - if you want to find out how fast or slow you are go do a Race or TT.
But if we're just having pissing contests about how good our wives are - I reckon mine' faster than yours even 6 months pregnant.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -

Saunaboy, if your wife is up for giving racing a go, the LWCR has some meet and greet rides over the next couple of weeks. All she needs is a road bike, a reasonable amount of fitness, being comfortable riding near others and an interest in bike racing. It'll be a good way for her to find out how fast she is in a pretty relaxed environment too.

Womans bronze standard for a 50 mile TT at our club is 2:35 (19.4mph)0

Who cares if she's fast! The question that must be ask is 'Is she a goer? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more'. Blame Monty Python. To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.0

Only men care about speed so much. If you're enjoying cycling and can see yourself improving, it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. Are all cycling clubs so elitist? Surely there are faster and slower members in each club?0

Whats elitist about going fast? :?0

Why does whether you see yourself improving make a difference to how you perceive what everyone else is doing, by the way?kell wrote:Are all cycling clubs so elitist?kell wrote:Surely there are faster and slower members in each club?0 -
Is your wife a beginner, as suggests in this part of the forum, if so then yes it is a pretty fast time0

My opinion is that your wife is quite fast, as sustainng an average speed of around 14.6 mph for 4 hours is not bad.
As others have said, standards of strength and fitness vary from person to person, depending on many factors - experience, how much training they have done at this stage in the season, whether they were pushing for a low time, their type of bike, the terrain, and so on.
So to be fair it's a rather open-ended question. Unless she wants to enter a 50 mile TT, in which case she's rather slow.
I'm not fast, which is why I enjoy riding Audax events.
