I've never paid 3 figures for shorts. Even my Assos shorts were £30 short of that. And they're the most expensive ones I have - by far.

You CAN pay big bucks - just as you CAN pay 7k for a bike. Doesnt mean you have to, or need to.

I posted that before looking at the 'brand' thread, and hadn't really thought of a couple of brands mentioned, there. It's been quite a while since I've needed to 'clothes' shop

As and when I'll have some nice Lusso bibs coming my way.
  • This claim for £50 for a jersey didn't ring true to me. I just checked on wiggle, just because it was the first that sprung to mind, by no means the cheapest, and if you search for short sleeved jerseys, the cheapest proper cycling jerseys come up at £22.49 - admittedly they are wiggle logo so subsidised advertising but there are plenty more at small increments after that.....

i dont think 22.49 delivered to your door for quality cycling jersey (e.g. decent material, proper cut, back pockets etc) is unreasonable.... of course you can pay more if you want, its a free country.....

Hmmm you make it sound so easy.
I've been trying to track down a new pair of bib shorts, for quite some time now, and I'm pretty shocked that I'm looking close to 3 figures.
That certainly didn't happen the last time in was in that market, 2-3 years ago.

Decathlon, £49, they are the best shorts I have out of Nalini, Pearl Izumi, Endura and Nike.

+ 1 for decathlon, I got a pair of padded winter membrane bibtights online for £29.99! I went on expecting to pay £49.99 for them but they were discounted. I thought £49.99 was reasonable as it was. Top quality kit for the money

When I started out, back in the day!.
I got a pair of shorts and a pair of 3/4's from DHB.

One was ok, and one was blooming unwearable, sadly I can't remember which style was comfy, therefore I've always given DHB a wide berth since.

As far as I know, DHB is a brand distributed exclusively by wiggle that has only existed in the last 3-4 years or so.....

I've been comprehensively beaten to it by loads of people, but anyway:

    £35.

Dunno if they do bib shorts but lots of people seem happy with the Aldi stuff (or is it Lidl?) which is less again.

From the 14th March Lidl have cycling equipmrnt in stock including cycling tops made from breathable, moisture wicking material, full zip of half zip for a mere £6.99 each.

Lidl/Aldi baselayers and socks are ok. The rest of the clothing is fine if you don't mind baggy, ill-fitting clothing.

I agree that you have to pick and choose carefully from the Aldi/Lidl range and I agree with you that the base layers/socks represent very good value. I was also happy with a couple of road tops and tight fitting cooler weather long sleeved top that I brought from Aldi last year.
The bib tights are very poor however.

Mine isn't baggy and ill-fitting, perhaps because I have this clever technique - I try them on before I buy them. My Lidl jacket & jersey, & my Aldi bib-tights, fit just fine & are totally comfortable, all done 1000s miles so far.
The hat & overshoe set from Aldi were a disappoint though, big holes worn in the overshoes after a mere 100 miles or so. Mind you, the set cost £6.
