Has anyone had issues with these? I have a Strada cadence wireless that will not work in the cold.
Out early saturday morning, only about 3-4deg and the damn thing did not want to play. slow screen change and only the very odd recording. Its done it before and thinking batteries, put 2 nice fresh duracells in a couple of weeks ago.
Later in day, temp rises all fine. Spin it up at home and all good.

Driving me mad having to add an estimated mileage to it when i get home :x

Have that same problem with the computer on my cross bike (can't remember the brand, but it's not cateye). I do have the cateye on other bikes and haven't had a problem.

I posted back in November about similar problems with consecutive CatEye Velo8 units, CRC were very good and eventually swapped the second one around Christmas for a Strada Wireless and paid half the difference too

All great until last week when after 2000+ miles and for no obvious reason (crash, heavy rain, extreme cold etc) it decided to go on the fritz and lose all data - have reset it and done 3 more rides ok, but it doesn't give me confidence

Ii have a CatEye and the only issue I have is that once in a while it stops recording due to a bad contact between the head unit and base. I fix this by cleaning the contact points with a fine sand paper.

Cold is the one thing I didn't consider when my Edge 705 had reconstructive surgery on it when we had the cold spell. It took upto 2 miles to register any mileage and I put it down to interference from TLs and other electronic sources.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Cold can effect battery performance. It might help to have fresher ones installed.

I've had half a dozen wireless CatEye computers (MicroWireless, Wireless Strada and V3). No isues with the cold. Only gripe being none of my MicroWireless computers can provide accurate speed readings with my CateEye SingleShot Plus in low or flashing beam due to light and computer being less than 10cm apart.

Thought about the batteries again. But the bike is kept in the spare bedroom, so nice and warm. Only comes out in the dry. Use my Marin or MTB at other times.
Works fine till out in cold, then all it needs is the time it takes me to lock the house, and its had enough.
Its been out 3 times since new batts, can't keep changing them.

  • Could it be inner condensation caused by going from warm to cold?

sounds strange, although lcds are quite susceptible to temperature ive never noticed a problem with my sigma used in winter. its wired though. a small cell will be quite sensitive to cold, maybe more in the transmitter because it will use a lot more power to generate the radio signal, the head unit just runs the screen and lcds use very little power.

My average mph reading is way out.. should read at least 30
Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?

Think I'll just have to live with it until someone buys me a nice Garmin.

I have a problem with mine too, it's the Cateye Double Wireless. Whenever my speed picks up to around 30 it starts to show 0 on the screen. Also screen change is a bit sluggish so I'm wondering if it's a problem with the battery.

  • Had the same problem with my micro. Tried new batteries seemed to work fine for a while, but out in 2 degrees C this morning and speedo was going all over the place.
