Rock shox recon sl knocking

Hi
My rock shox recon have starting knocking alot and i think the bushes might be foooooked.
How do i know if its the top or bottom ones? also how is the best way to remove these?
I dont want to pay for a shop to do this.

Is there any play in the bushings? If not, the knocking may be a faulty damper or spring.

If it is the bushings, they are not easy to extract without the right tool, but can be knocked out with a pick from the bolt holes and reinstalled with a suitably sized piece of pipe.

Would be best to replace top and bottom.
