Lyrik 2Step,reduced travel & Mission Control adjusters s
gtd.

Bought a Lyric 2 step that has lost travel, (the seller neglected to tell me) :x
that is as far as it goes in max travel
in min travel it drops to somewhere in between the 115mm mark and the 2 Step logo.
The Mission Control adjusters are stiff they'll turn but due to them being stiff its hard to judge the adjustment "clicks".
The Low speed comp is getting easier to move but the high speed is still a little stiff and the 2.5mm Allen key gate adjuster was stuck but I carefully freed it off.
There was fine mud up the steerer so I guess that is also what is stuck in the MiCo knobs
Thinking of removing the knobs (I have the service manual and its quite easy and spraying a little Plus Gas or something t try and free the detent springs and plungers a little.
Anyway looked in the 2 Step trouble shooting guide and it says
Symptom
In maximum travel setting, fork does not extend to maximum travel mark.
In minimum travel setting, minimum travel mark is below wiper seal.
Total travel adjustment range is 45mm
Cause
Excessive oil in the 2-Step Air system
Solution
Verify oil level by performing steps 1-3 of the 2-Step Air Service Guide.
The oil level should just reach the bottom of the upper tube threads.
Or
Cause
Damage to the following components:
2-Step IFP piston and housing
Top out spring retainer
Lower sealhead o-ring
Lower bumper ring
Solution
Perform full service of 2-Step system, paying particular attention to the components of note
Think I going to have to chat with the seller, as they were sold as only having minor cosmetic damage, and having been serviced and having 2010 internals installed.
Is the service as easy as shown in the Rock Shox manuals (I'm quite good at mechanical and fiddly jobs, I am a small engine and machinery fitter and it looks a lot easier than the stuff I fix at work)

so have you set the air pressures yet?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yep, set them at 100psi to check travel as stated it the Rock Shox Lyric 2-step air service video but the stanchions do not extend to maximum travel mark. tried max pressure but still no extra travel. Tried increasing to 140 psi (the Lyric manual states max pessure as 145 psi) but the travel still didn't increase.
I'm guessing / hoping an o-ring has failed as the 160mm travel indicator would be hidden by the wiper seals in max travel setting but they should sit at the 115 mm travel indicator in min travel setting if it was just that the oil level is wrong.Mountain: Orange Patriot FR, SubZero & Evo2LE.

The 2step system was plagued with problems. The symptoms match my own problems, sent it back under warranty and eventually got it back- with supposedly updated spec parts that wont go wrong.... It went wrong in the same way, got pissed off with it and converted it to coil. Been brilliant ever since.0

I'm thinking of getting a lower lube kit, oils and a MiCo service kit and a 2-Step air service kit from TF Tuned hoping that its the o-rings. Not sure if I need the MiCo service kit. Thinking of upgrading to the Enduro seal kit and clean out the silt like mud from the MiCo controls by placing the unit in a ultrasonic bath of IPA.
If changing the o-rings fixes the 2-Step I'll just service it whenever the travel drops. :?
Hopefully its just the "lower sealhead o-ring" that needs changing if so I'll order a few and any o-rings that need changing to get to the lower sealhead o-ring.Mountain: Orange Patriot FR, SubZero & Evo2LE.

That's exactly what mine did when they blew up (in the post, before I'd ever ridden them). It's a shame as the 2-step is mint, just not trustworthy.
I'd go straight back to the seller personally. Buuuut, should you be unable to get your money back, there's a few options. Service the 2-step and hope it works- apparently they are fiddly as hell, I never looked at mine as TBC dealt with a warranty claim etc and all got very smoothly sorted. 2, coil conversion- adds weight but is as reliable as forks get. Or 3- buy my nearly-new 2010-spec 2-step cartridge which I just replaced with a coil conversionUncompromising extremist0 -

Coil adds barely any weight, maybe important for the sad feckers who should take a shit before riding or carry an ounce less water... Bt for sensible people, no problem.0 -
Nah, it's a fair old chunk for the u-turn, just over 250g on my scales- which doesn't sound much but it's very noticable on the bike because of the location. Still worth it IMO but if I could trust the air fork I'd go back to it like a shot. People make a lot of noise about coil being better for ride quality but it doesn't feel any more sensitive to me, quite surprised by that.
But as it is, Rockshox can't seem to make it work and I'm not leaving a part I can't trust on the bike for racing or long trips etc.Uncompromising extremist0
