Running 150mm forks with 140mm rear suspension?

Hi there,

Would having a set of 150mm travel forks and 140mm rear travel affect the geometry of my bike, making it feel unbalanced and 'wrong' for want of a better word.

I'll be using the bike for AM, namely trails. Is this a wise move or will it have a negative effect on my bike?

Any feedback greatly recieved!

and your bike is a what?

    make/model/year.

and what does it come with as standard as if it is not 150/140 then yes it will make a diference.

Frame is an intense 5.5 2006 EVP - Forks Im looking at getting are Fox float R 32 150mm version. Not sure on the year

EDIT: Intense recommend 100-140mm forks, so I guess 150mm won't work

will work, just invalidate your warranty for the frame. it will make a difference and slacken the head angle. a positive or negative thing is down to you as the rider.

Many 5.5 riders use a 150mm fork and seems to be happy with it.

I don't think it will be a problem.

Intense have given that figure for a reason.

However I think the float is quite short for 150mm, so you might get away with it.

You might of course rip your head tube off the bike, but only 10mm.

It is a grey area, the risk is yours to take.

I have cracked frames running only 15mm more.

I am not 100% sure but can you not adjust the height of the float internally?
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?
  • The 2010 150mm rev is only slightly taller than the 2009 140mm.

Check your axle to crown heights!

This is probably more important than the actual travel.
  • The 5.5 EVP is too steep @140mm and I'm fairly sure it's good for up to 160mm forks. They certainly improved the handling for most of my friends' versions with zero issues.
