Gear problem

I've just rebuilt my Prophet after mortally wounding it during the winter. On the rear end, I've put a new cassette and chain. I've set the mech up and all gears are going in without a problem.

I took the bike out yesterday for a run and I've noticed that on the 2 smallest rings on the back under load the gears are slipping. The chain is not moving between gears, it just seems to be slipping.

My thoughts are a goosed rear mech or Jockey wheels. Is there a way to check the jockey wheels?

The reason I'm asking is on the X9 mech I'm going to be around 25 - 30 for Jockey wheels or around 50 - 60 for a new mech.

Thanks in advance.

so bent mech hanger, poor set up, poor cable routing.

put it in those gears and move the bike through its travel and see if the mech is moved.

I would guess it is a dirty rear mech. X9 mechs are notorious for it. I had hoped it was cured for the ten speed, but my new ten speed does it too... Clean the pivot with Loads of wd40 as often as possible. Seems to help.
