Feeling cold after a long ride

Helloo,
I've only started doing comparitvely long rides (for me) about a month ago and when i come back from say a 50/60 mile ride I hop in the shower change into some fresh clothes but then I start feeling cold, even with a nice thick jumper on which wouldnt usually leave me nice and warm.
Just wondered if anyone else has come across this problem/knows how I might be able to solve it? Or is it just a case of my body getting used to recovering from longer rides?
Thanks
Nick

Not enough fuel (food) before/on the ride?Purveyor of "up"0

Possible causes
(1) Not wearing appropriate clothing whilst riding but not feeling too cold due to concentrating on effort of cycling and adreline.
(2) Not eating and/or drinking enough during ride
(3) Not eating after ride. Why not eat small hot snack and warm drink immediately afterwards. When I feel cold after exercise I normally find eating helps0 -
Thanks guys, I think I generally eat enough before riding, typically I eat two bowls of fruit and fibre then two slices of wholemeal toast with jam before riding, during a ride i eat say a flapjack and half a malt loaf but I do neglect eating much when I get back (just tend to drink milk then a few cups of tea) so I'll make sure I eat a snack when I get home next time.
Clothing wise I usually wear full length tights, padded shorts over the top, thermal socks, a longsleeve jersey and a waterproof/windproof jacket on a day like today, which seems to keep me at just the right temperature, even back before xmas when it snowed this was generally enough to keep me warm.0 -
I often get the chills after exercising, doesn't have to be cycling as I used to get it after footy or running too.
I was out for 4 hours today, got out the door at 7 and it was blinking cold but I soon warmed up with a lumpy ride. However, I was freezing about 20 mins after I got back so had a long soak in a big fat bath with a large mug of coffee. Sorted.
Needed a good few stretches and a walk afterwards to get my body working again though.0 -
Hot bath usually sorts this out for me."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0

again another helpful thread, answering questions i had.
Nickel, though only two rides into my first ever exploits on a road bike. i too have returned and been cold and struggling to recover. this has also been paired with pretty violent hic ups, which cant be good.
so more food/fuel before and during rides from now on"I need your Lycra's...your shoes...and your bike"

I had a similar reaction last week. I was doing fine, stopped for a gel bar and after that I was cold. I know all energy had gone from me.
I was out for 4 hours and had only one after about 2 hours I had two bottles with a weakish sis drink in them which i was drinking.
How often should I take gel bars? Is it one every hour?0 -
i think its just the weather and being drained of energy. a few nice hot cups of tea does me good. after being used to the cold winter its easy to not realise how much heat youre loosing when the weather is in between, not warm an not uncomfortably cold. im back in shorts now.0
