Noob From Leamington Spa!

Ello,

Well i'm 26 and relatively fit (un), Based in good ole Leamington Spa!

I Used to be a Powerkiter before selling up,I travelled to Leicester 3-4 times a week to instruct at the centre there and couldn't afford to do it ( petrol money, membership costs, equipment costs, Insurance etc. )

I Snowboard when I can and wanted something to do to get the blood pumpin when the snow isn't about. So I went out a bought a Commencal Premier Plus 2011 mountain bike ( was either that or the Kona Nunu ) but I much preferred the Commencal..

I've owned it for 2 days now, first day was a bit of a bummer, got flats in both tyres after 5 miles and had to walk it back... Lesson Learned, don't ride on trails with fresh cut brambles on the ground and no repair kit!

With new Self repairing inner tubes, repair kit and various other goodies I set out again today and did around 15 miles, most offroad and alot of getting lost!
I came back caked in mud and a huge grin. I got the bug for it now :-D

Anyone else from around the area?

I need to learn some good offroad routes

did a ride yesterday down the old rail line from rugby to leam, mud fest , through sydnam then did a loop round newbold common and got 7 massive thornes in my back wheel for the pleasure.

did get to look all manly repairing it on Newbold Cres in front of the leamington ladies who lunch

I might be mistaken but i believe 'The bike yard' bike shop organise mountain bike rides around the local area. I'm not 100% this is true, but i'd go in and ask if I were you....

Yeah thx Airbusboy,

Popped in there today, lovely bunch of ppl, stood talking to them for a while ( had trouble with my front mech.. )

They sorted it no probs and told me about the club they have every thursday night too.

You can always go sheep dodging on Burton Dasset! There's normally nutters getting pulled along by giant kites there too. :P

I remember going up there when I got my first bike, and following my husband. Not being used to off-road biking, I hit the brakes as soon as I hit a rock, and started tilting sideways. Unfortunately I was on a narrow path with a sheer drop off the side, so when I put my foot down there was nothing there, and fell 7ft. Thought I'd broken my arm, was just a bit bruised though. The bike was unscathed! :P

I'm in Leamington too, and had exactly the same puncture problem on the canal (20 puncture on 2bikes), at almost the same location! :evil:

Another good trip or is the other way, follow the canal to Shrewley (no punctures yet!) and then cross country to Kenilworth castle and back down the Millennium way.

I understand there is a regular ride, who leave fromt he tiller pin on Sundays at 7.30am (which explains why I haven't made it yet! )

It's the old railway line between the 2. Starts near the cement works in Rugby IIRC just off the new bypass, rode to the end of it last weekend for the 1st time. I live in Cov and tend to cycle across towards Rugby and join it at the pedestrian bridge over the new bypass.

It runs past Draycote water and is part of the National cycle network for a short section, so if you ride to Draycote you can join the Cycle network section there and then instead of following the cycle network route just stay on the railway line.

thanks andermt, i rode the national cycle route and draycote waters for the first time yesterday, ill have a look for the route next weekend when i go for a ride again
