Now it goes with sayout saying that my mum is the best mum in the world, but if Carlsberg made mums I think they might use LiT's mum as some kind of benchmarking exercise...

Oops. In my defence, that thread was right next to DDD's one containing a political conspiracy thriller involving potholes. I was so blinded by the awesomeness of DDD that I couldn't see any of the threads near to it.

To be honest, I think a fair few mums may well be down to Special Brew
Dalston --> Canary Wharf, and all pubs inbetween

Supoib. I note her Spitfire has an extra seat. I've always wanted a go in a Spitfire but have flown nothing more glamourous than a DG-500 glider. So please tell your Mum if she likes my post that much I'm always up for a trip to Duxford...

Thanks Redvee! Very handy to have cuttings :)

Is the sunday star a bristol paper? Or the daily star?

Well, it does have a few Bristols in it, not sure if it is fair to describe it as a bristol paper though!

It's the sunday version of the Daily Star. The pic was lifted from the e-paper, not the print version which was monochrome or black & white for the youngsters.
There are ways to get the footage from the ITN news sites if they are needed, no doubt the ITV local news for Southampton will have the same if not more footage.

  • Blimey. I feel like I am in the presence of aviation Royalty. Lit's Mum is the famous Ms Grace !?!

I've always wanted a ride in a Spitfire but it seems like the few two seat ones are all operated on Private and not Public Certificates of Airworthiness and therefore cant take paying passengers.

I'd love to know what twist of the rules the folks at Top Gear used to get 3 two seat Spitfires in the same place loaded with the TG presenters for a program a few years back.
  • Living not that far from the airport where the first flight of the Spitfire took place, I was quite looking forward to seeing one on Saturday - but spent the day on Southampton General Hsp with my little lad.

Was out on Sunday morning taking him to the local duck pond (yep - in 24-hours a 2-year-old can go from barely able to breathe to bouncing round the place, I blame the steriods, if he was drug tesetd yesterday he would have been out the next Olympics). Heard an engine noise and looked up to see a Spitfire fly right over us. Angle was wrong to see if it was a two-seater, but if that was your mum LiT, please do say thanks for making sure we didn't miss out!

That was the Grace Spitfire, LiT's mum was on the radio on Saturday talking about it.

Oops should have read the rest of the thread before stating the obvious!!!
  • Living in Cambridge I'm pretty certain I get to see this a lot during the summer - there's been many a sunny afternoon spent watching the skies for impromptu practice aerobatics. I was also lucky enough to see her fly at The Last Night of the Proms at Audley End last year - an amazing display set to music - say thanks to your mum for me :D

But you are allowed to contribute proportionately to the cost.
