Fizik Gobi - am I being unreasonable?

Just wanted a wider opinion to see what you guys think before I decide if i should contact Extra Uk or not.....

The pics are of my Fizik seat, its had just under 200 miles usage and now the outer skin has started to peel away leaving it looking 'tatty' for want of a better decription. The rails have also really badly corroded although i think this was after being on the back of the car on a salty road trip so cant really complain as i put that down to maybe should have washed it after the motorway trip. Its not been crashed or dropped either.

But I would have expected the outer skin to have lasted more that 200 miles - or am I being unresonable? its only ever ridden wearing endura shorts so nothing on them that i could see thats causing any untoward abraision.

Ive had lots of cheaper seats that have lasted much longer so should I just accept that its normal wear and tear, or should I be looking at making contact with Extra UK?

That's not right - mines 3 years old and has a few thousand miles on and it's in better nick than that.

1st port of call is the shop you bought it from, your warranty is with them, not the distributor.

Hi I'm pretty sure that they would put this down to normal wear and tear but it never hurts to ask. I guess the real problem would be proof of mileage and use etc.

Thanks guys, will pop into my LBS and ask - good relationship there so they know i'm genuine. it did not seem right but always better to get 2nd opinion, its not really visible in the pics but the layer coming of is like a really thin layer of black, thought it was leather but it looks lijke thin rubber?

*Edit - Just returned from LBS, theyve taken photos and will get on to Extra. - Manager has never seen one go like this either - will see what happens.

LBS phoned today (Bicycle Chain in Bridgwater) - new seat had arrived from Extra UK - changed with no questions asked. Been speaking to another guy who bought one around the same time, that had the same damage - might have been a bad batch possibly? - still cant complain on the turnaround - good work fellas !

    Excellent news.

You tend to find that when premium products start going wrong they are replaced a quite quickly. The last thing the distributer wants is a load of pictures on the internet about a bad batch of expensive saddles.

My mate's Empire AP1 snapped at the headtube about a week after he got it. He sent them pictures of it he had taken on his camera phone. They sent out a new frame before he'd even posted the old one back!

Last thing you want to see on Southern Downhill etc is a snapped AP1

That looks like it's seen 2000 miles at least, so after 200 I'd not be happy.

I've got a Flite Ti that isnt that bad after 14 years - unlike your rear tyre ;)
