What's goodish for me and what's not?

Once you've got the wind powered Vindaloo comments out of the way, this is a genuine question.

As I've doing my 1st event in 2 weeks, so I want a decent rides this weekend, but I'm also out on the town tonight.

I'll be mixing my drink, beer - water - beer - water, etc, but am a little lost as to what to eat.

Go to the Italian and get a pasta and chicken dish.

If it's the Indian I would suggest a drier dish such as Tandoori Chicken and try to cut out the sauce or add just a little amount.

Ideally try to avoid a night on the town before a big ride particularly if the ride is an event. Probably less important the night before training rides as long as thats not the norm. Ultimately it depends on how serious you are with your cycling.

Do you want to win races or is it just for enjoyment and to help keep fit? If its the latter then as long as input matches or is less than output you can eat what you like. Although for energy you need to ensure the diet has the right balance of carbs/proteins/fats.

It all depends on your constitution, I prefer hotter curry's so a Madras is usually ok for me if I want to take it easy.

If you want to play safe, go for a Biryani with a mild/medium sauce which should come seperate.

I'd drink ale or bitter and stay off lager which I find dehydrates me, cider is a no no unless I want my head to feel like a dried prune in the morning  .

Hard as it may be, try to get up early and make sure you drink some pre-ride fluids and a eat decent sized cereal to get going.

    Have a good one!

Tandoori Chicken, Boiled rice, chipatis and lots of yohurt sauce (and a dash of lime pickle)
Not the most exciting but nice and not full of ghee etc.

Alas I think my best of intentions have already gone out of the window.

I just cooked the kids a fry-up lunch, and self control isn't my strong point.

So today's intake will now stand at:-

    Pancakes

    Fry up

    Ale and curry.

Great carb loading, what you're doing there :-)

Stay away from curries with a lot of sauce. As already suggested, tandoori chicken or biryani would be good options. And no popadoms!

You could order Puy de Domes to make you sound like a pro.

Was that possibly the worst "joke" ever to appear here?

Not too hot, or you may have a 'ring of fire' if you get my drift tomorrow. That is a whole new level of pain for saddle sores!!

    Tough day in the saddle.
I think the only saviour was drinking plenty of water through the evening.

Shared a fabulous king prawn jalfrezi, chicken garlic chilli and a rather disappointing tandoori mixed grill yesterday evening with plain pilau, saag aloo and a peshwari naan. Didn't get leathered or anything, just a couple of Kingfishers before and during, glass of crianza after and plenty of water.
Not the best nights sleep mind but 51 miles in 3 hours 2 minutes this morning so content with that for March.

Unfortunately we went to an Italian last night, I would have preferred a curry. Kept my drinking down to 4 pints and did 75 with the club today.

Postie John, what curry did you go for in the end?

i went out last night got a skinfull of ale, then just after midnight went to the curry house and had chicken vindaloo 2 nan breads, lime pickle some of those spicy poppadoms and spiniche baji, and ice cream for desert, got home at 3 am, went out this morning at 9 and did 80 hard miles, feel a tad tired now though .

Well the advise I stuck to was plain boiled rice.
The advise I bore in mind left me with Chicken Tikka Bhunna, but left nearly half the sauce.
The advise I completely ignored, Pops and naan (well I needed something to soak up the other half of the sauce!!)
