PS3 not playing Blu Rays properly

Hi,
I've just got a PS3 slim and am having problems playing Blu Ray movies. I've been playing games perfectly well but when I put in a Blu Ray of Vantage point it sort of loaded but then the screen flickered and the picture went. It did this with other movies too.
As I said, there are no such problems with games. This thing is literally 3 days old and its really peeing me off that its not working properly, it has the newest software as well. I have an original PS3 as well and that functions perfectly.
Hopefull you guys will be able to shed some light on this,
Cheers, Max

Is it a resolution issue? I.e. your TV isn't happy with the resolution/frequency that the new PS3 is pumping out?
Please note I'm a bit of a technophobe, but I'm just putting this out there. I hope you get it all sorted soon!Ben

The original PS3 worked perfectly with the TV that the new one is hooked up to, the TV does say 1080i not 1080p but I don't know how to change that, the TV is a panasonic viera. I'll have a poke around.0

Have you updated the PS3 system firmware yet online... There has been a couple of DVD player updates recently.... Ok just reread your post and you say you have done so.... Mmm
Have you checked the DVD output details in the menu.... How is it connected to your TV?0
