Hi - I have a mountain bike and have converted an old one to a road bike but it's really not up to the 30k plus rides. I am tempted by a Claud Butler 2010 Milano but have been offered an SCR Giant (2nd hand) in good nick for £375, which I think I might be able to knock down further.

So, what's the expert advice then, brand new Claud Butler for £400 or 2nd hand SCR Giant for maybe £300/£325?

And I'm really just a fun rider doing it for exercise and scenery, so please stop with the £3000 light as a feather stuff :D My budget is £400 max so I'm happy with entry level stuff.
Regards, Jack

If you want to rack up some miles I think spending 400 on a new bike it might not really be up to par, you can get some fantastic 2nd hand bikes for 350-400, just sold my winter steed to a friend starting out in the cycling world for 350, will last him for years and years if taken care of.

Out of those two I'd say go for the Giant - Claud Butler make budget bike whereas Giant make everything from low end to top end bikes. If those don't work out then keep an eye out for a good second hand bike from Giant, Specialized and Trek to name just a few. Also get to know your correct size as fitting a road bike is very different from an MTB.
