Sram Apex Crankset Compataiblity

Just received a Sram Apex Crankset 50 / 34. On the reverse of the 50t is says use only 34t and on the 34t it says use 10-Speed Only.

I would like to use this crank on a Shimano 9 speed drivetrain, and maybe change the 34 to 36 at some time.

Any comments please to if these two information messages are really true.

Down the Road

Will be fine on 9 10 or 11 speed.

Top end chainsets have 'paired' rings to improve shifting. Hence the big one is for use with a 34 or a 36 inner. If you fit a 36 you would probably never notice the difference. Shimano did the same with 53/39 and 53/42 using A or B big rings. I would not let it worry you.
They will also work OK on 9sp. You may get a little more chain rub when cross chaining on the inner ring.
