Hi,

I am after some advice what most people would consider as the best brand for lycra shorts?

I want some decent padding, and the ones i have now are ready for the bin.

So basically i am looking for a decent pair of lycra shorts that will give me the best padding for my behind, and i would like to hear of specific shorts that people would recommend.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

A lot of people would consider assos to be the best, and if you want plenty padding go for the FI Mille S5. But they're not cheap....

tbh most are very good, however I find my santani ones very good, heard very good reviews about shutt vr (and they are british) so they may be worth a try. Assos are meant to be the best I have a Assos jersey other than the packaging it isn't anything special. Oh yes make sure you get bib shorts a lot more comfortable.

    :)

I had a couple of pairs of Lusso shorts (about £40 ish) which I thought were ok until I eventually treated myself to a pair of Assos FI Uno and they're so much better.
Used to get sore sit bones after a couple of hours but not any more!
Also read some good things about Shutt and apparently De Marchi shorts have the same pad insert as Assos??
Tell us what your maximum price range is.

Just get Assos, at least you won't be disappointed.

Uno, Mille or FI.13, they're all good.

Definitely go for bibs. No slipping down, no waistbands. You wont find a professional who doesnt wear them.

I prefer my DHB to my Assos.

Unless, you are spending long hours in the saddle and dont feel the need to waste time getting down to business (Im being delicate here note)-shorts can be useful then

But +1 for the dhb pads on a long trip-well up to it.
Whats the solution? Just pedal faster you baby.

All I can say is they are superb. Just done a week on the Flanders cobbles with a new saddle (SLR Team Edition, so not built for comfort) and my rear is not suffering at all. I will be getting a new pair soon, am waiting as I have heard they are tweaking the design of the shorts and hopefully adding some colour to the range. Mine are 9 months old.

Well that will rule out Assos.

As above dhb are very good value. Also you might get some Gore ones for a few quid more if you look carefully.

It looks like dhb is the way to go after a few recommendations here.

I'm going to be in the saddle for some pretty long rides soon, upto 10 hours, and i've found these bib dhb shorts, http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-earnley-cycling-bib-shorts/

so before i order a couple of pairs, are these the ones to go for?

the link above is for wiggle.co.uk but i'm not necessarily going to order from there as i've noticed a lot of their prices are higher than my local cycle shop. i just wanted to point out the actual product.

DHB is a Wiggle own brand so you may struggle to find this elsewhere.

Went to Condor today but they didn't have the Assos Mille in my size. My wife wanted to buy a watch from Harrods, so I had a quick look in their cycling section and they had some (slightly more expensive, but in my size). Feels strange buying cycling clothing in a shop where you get serenaded by an opera singer as you use the elevator! :)

the cycling shop i was in today had a homeless guy sat by the door and a dog sat behind the counter in a basket. we had slightly different shopping experiences today.
