Biking the Marin trail with SPD shoes and pedals

Hi everyone,
I have been using my SPD clipless pedals and shoes (taken off my road bike) on my mtb over the winter. I've been using the MTB on road as a winter training bike.
On Saturday, i'm going to Wales to do the Marin trail. I was wondering if I should put my Kona Jack S**t pedals back on or stick with the spd's.
Is it dangerous riding these kinds of trails with your feet attached to the pedals, or is it actually safer cos I won't slip off the pedals? I've never ridden off road with them before.
Any advice or experience?
Thanks
