In the last week I've ridden some great trails - this is my rank order:

1st Penmachno
2nd Gwydr Forest (Marin Trail)
3rd Llandegla
4th Cragg & Lee Quarry

Penmachno was superb I love that trail - but why is it always raining? Marin is underrated - not that technical but you still get a bit of the 'big ride' feel for a way-marked trail. Llandegla's ok bits of the Red run closed - cafe was shut on a Monday though - loses marks for no bacon buttie. Cragg & Lee hadn't ridden before - didn't warm to them, too compact felt like an MTB Gym all a bit hamster in cagey - link trail v. boring.

There you have it.

    Agreed. Penmachno = very :D

Love the wilderness feel to the cwm section on the return leg.

Shame that bits of Llandegla were closed - go back again when they are open and it will rise up on your list - I've done it 4 times and like it a lot.. Check out Coed-y-brenin - that's my favourite at the mo..... not as wilderness as Penmachno, but a real good ride.

I will echo the thoughts of others on the Marin. I think it is crap. 4 good sections totalling 3Km max on a 25Km trail of fireroads. Boring and a slog for little reward. :(
  • Whinlatter hands down followed by Nant-y-Arian, Coed-y-Brenin

Llandegla is ok... just don't talk to anyone.

You need to ride Whinlatter, i'll be there in 2 weeks :D
Its by far my favorite trail, just superb.

CYB is my favourite trail centre - Glyncorrwg/Afan second and Cwmcarn 3rd.

I still like Marin though - maybe I'm the only one. Having ridden natural trails for most of my MTB life maybe I'm easily pleased.

Why shouldn't I talk to anyone at Llandegla?

Llandegla id fine, you should really stop bitching about it.

    Penmachno is good, very good.

Marin trail is good and gives you the impression you're riding a natural trail.

Lee Quarry is good but I keep breaking bits, swear never to visit again the break something on the next visit.
    Advocate of disc brakes.

agree with HD; the marin does feel like the sort of middle distance, self-planned route you end up doing when you're on holiday or something. Its no worse for that though. I guess alot of folk are used to the, erm, denser feel of newer trails.

CYB, Penmachno, marin and degla all quitte different characteristics, we're lucky really....gotta say i still do nost of my riding outside the trail centres though, different again and i like it more 8)
