Hi all,

I've narrowed down my choice to the following:

Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc 2011 - £599
Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 2011 - £459
Voodoo Bokor - £599
Carrera Fury - £599

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

The Fury and Bokor are a step ahead of the Pro, and light years ahead of the Sport. They would be the two I try out for general trail riding and XC duties.

I'll echo the above statement. Bu the Fury is really designed for more 'hardcore' riding, with more travel and its built a touch tougher. Sorry, I just did a search and the 2010 model is no longer available. The 2010 version is £80 more and 1.3kg heavier but has a 140mm fork upfront. That's quite a lot of weight. The only decent option left is the Fury.

if it's a blue bokor - get that over the fury, I've had both and the bokor is better

I've had another more indepth search and it appears that there are still bokors available. sorry.
  • Hi all,

    Thanks for the replies!

Due to various issues with getting to Halfords and the fact that the Bokor now seems to have sold out I need to get the bike online from a site that delivers the bike built [such as Evans].

    My budget is £600....

    How are these bikes:

    BMC Team Elite TE04 2010
    Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc 2011
    Saracen Zen 1 2010
    Kona Blast 2011
    Trek 4900 Disc 2010
    Commencal Premier Disc 2011
    Gary Fisher Piranha Disc 2010
    Pinnacle Peak 4.0 2010

    Anything else?

Sorry for the long list but these bikes all look the same to a noob like me :(

Thanks again for the help, hugely appreciate it.

I bought a Hardrock sport disc earlier this year, mainly because I wanted a "beefy" frame to support my 17st. Since buying I've upgraded to full deore groupset and Reba's. Lovely bike now, and perfect for me. I've used it for communting and various trail-break rides of up to 30 miles. Climbs really well and with the right tyres gets through mud better.

    BUT

If I'd listened to the people on this board I would of bought a Rockhopper and saved myself a lot of time and trouble.

you could get it delivered and then build it yourself. It's only putting the pedals on and turning the bars the right way round.

As of yesterday with the release of the new Boardmans, this:

The geometry is almost exactly the same ast the Fury and there are only tiny spec changes but it's 1lb lighter. It's £650 unfortunately.

It's true that, but it still works out better as an XC bike than most of the competition too. If I had to get a bike for under £750 I can't see that it'd be anything but a Fury, except for mad discounts.

cancel that with the new Boardmans. The comp is almost identicle with the same geo but manages to be 1lb lighter but its a bit more unfortunately.

If I had a choice for myself now, I'd get the Boardman
