just picked up another puncture the third in a year...is this normal...should I buy new tyres? they have completed about 3000miles

  • That's one every 1000 miles not bad. What tyre pressure do you KEEP them at?

    Personally I prefer these

Buy them if they're worn - but 3 punctures in a year is pretty good.

Hell I've had 3 punctures on one ride !

I use Kenda thorn resistant inner tubes, used to get many punctures on my MTB - never had a single one since I fitted these beauties.

Just switched to a road bike and both tyres that came with it punctured in the space of two weeks just cycling to work. Just stuck some Kenda's in them and got some new Continental Ultra Sport tyres - a little more substantial, hope to never have a puncture again.

I know there's not much love for Halfords but if you buy the Gatorskins online @ Halfords you get the second one half price. Worked out the cheapest deal I could find last week.

PS - I have no ties to Halfords, I just like getting stuff cheap!
Current steed is a '07 Carrera Banshee X

When I used this type of tyre they were great until you started seeing the carcass through the casing, then they punctured and had to be replaced. 3000 miles sounds like the lower end of the sort of milage for replacement but it depends on your weight and what you have been riding on.

I got less than 3 punctures a year / 3000 miles with mine, but I am not you :)

ultra sports get some pretty heavy criticism on here for puncturing often. continental rubber seems quite soft to me.

I run Hutchinson Fusion 3's on my winter wheels and Michelin Pro Race 3's on my summer wheels both with air comp lightweight inner tubes. Non of these combinations are advertised as super puncture proof.

I have not punctured in just over 5000 miles. 3/5ths of which which will be winter miles.

I believe the secret to be topping up to 120psi every day and running a cloth over them as soon as you get home to wipe off all of the bits of road you collected whilst your out.

My mate says its a faff, but its nice to smile when your lending him another tube.
