Im Switching to road shoes from my mtb spd shoes. Ive got some 2nd hand look A5.1 pedals from a guy on here, and im waiting for some new Diadora road shoes to arrive. All I need now is cleats.

Which ones to get though? Black or Red, what is the purpose of the 'float'?

Cheers

float allows your knees and feet a certain amount of freedom to move. The black cleats lock your foot into position and hold it tight which for eg time trials can mean max.transfer of power thro' the leg to the pedal. However, not everyone can take this rigid transfer so a certain amount of play allows your leg joints to move. Speedplay Zeros have I think zero float whereas the standard ones have a lot more play.

I still use them, always get the red ones, never bothered with Keos, the delta ones do a great job.

They have up to 15 degrees of float which is micro adjustable,
They are the first clipless pedals I have owned (chosen mainly because they are double sided), and I absolutely love them
