Got a slight issue with front derailleur, i have checked the park tool FAqs and other videos but just want to check before i make the change
Atm i getting what seems the chain rubbing on the front derailleur when its in the highest cog, 3rd up.
I think i just need to ajust the two little screws, so that the front derailleur moves out a big and gives the chain some room. right?
Main reson i asking as i not sure if i need to start messing around with cables and the ajusters on the handle-bars, or do i?
heres pictures to try show

hopefully it be a simple turn a screw job...

have you tried adding some tension to the cable. shifter barrel adjuster."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

^^ no i havnt messed around with the barrel ajusters yet on the handle bars
should i be changing the front derailleur ajuster then? i thought that you just turn the screws to change the position and leave the cabels alone?London2Brighton Challange 100k!

Assuming the shifter-lever moves freely and each gear 'click's into place without undue effort, then it looks like the cage isn't far enough over - the two screws do indeed dictate the postioning of the cage in high and low gear - if it's the same as mine then the one you need to adjust is the left-hand screw as you look towards the front of the bike (if it moves very freely in both directions, it's the wrong one...lol).
They should have 'Hi' and 'Lo' next to them anyway.
You may need to re-adjust the cable afterwards: simply put it in the small ring, loosen off the hex-nut that holds the cable while pulling it finger-tight then re-tighten the hex-nut.0 -
The screws are limit adjusters but the cable dictates where the mech goes within those limits. So, it could be that adjusting the screw will do nothing at all. What to do is, ride along and get it rattling, then try pushing the lever as if to change up and see if it stops. If it doesn't change at all and if you feel like you're pushing against resistance, adjust the "high" limit stop and see if it helps. If it stops rattling, then it's not the limit stop, it's the cable so add a little tension.Uncompromising extremist0

chaning to high gear i dont find a huge issue, just have to press the big "up gear" leaver a bit and it changes its just that the chain like the pictures show are rubbing on the front derailleur when in 3rd gear/highest gear on chainring.
so to be correct you saying ajust the barrel ajuster first for the front derailleur then see if the derailleur still rubs on the chain then if it still rubs mess around with the screws??
if so does this mean i need to ajust the barrel so clockwise ?London2Brighton Challange 100k!

is that correct in what i said,?
as some of the responces here and online seem to conflict, do i mess around with barrel ajuster or mess around with screws if the chain is rubbing on the outer chainringLondon2Brighton Challange 100k!

Turning the adjuster anti clockwise increases cable tension and swings the derailer out.
Turning the H stop anti clockwise will allow the mech to move out further - but only if there is enough tension to get there.
I would start from scratch. Undo the cable and put the cable adjuster half way. Make sure the mech is is at the correct angle and height.
Then follow the Park Tools guide.0 -
i just tested the front derailleur with my finger and found that if i push it down the chain doesnt rub on it.
also if i pull it slightly it also doesnt rub.
what would that indicate? does this mean i need to tighted the cabel then so that the derailleur moves down and out then?London2Brighton Challange 100k!
