Am building an MTB and looking to spend around £60 of 2 wheels inc. hubs off eBay.

Alot of the website are quoting 2000 - 2300gm's for the wheels.

Not sure if these are meant to be really heavy.

What can i realistically expect to get for £60 off eBay ?

And weight wise.

£60 is rather cheap for wheels they will either be:

    - crap
    - verging on dangerous
    - both

If you can stretch to more then I would! Look at Deore hubs on XM317s from Merlin or something. Anything at that price will be heavy.

Looked on Merlin site, a pair of XM317 with Deore Hubs work out at £100 so am hoping i can get used ones for £60.

Am hoping something like these will do, wont be racing. Just riding as Tourist.

Think teh weight of those complete comes in at 2kg
  • Halfords are doing the Xero Elements XSD3 for £50 at the moment. I have owned a set for a over a year and been fine, they have taken several batterings down Mt Keen and Lochnagar and not needed to be trued. The rear hub siezed on me last week and it's beyond repair.

They are heavy over 2Kg but cheap and strong.

Second hand at that price, if in decent condition should be fine. New would be bargain basement.

These are good and not a lot over budget:

I have them on the apollo project and they are fairly light-1.9ks- and are very strong and reliable. Best wheels available for under £100 imo
