Hi there,

I'm looking to replace my Miche Race wheels and I seem to be quite drawn to the Mavic Ksyrium Equipe pairing. Is this a reasonable upgrade do you think?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

You need to give us more information - what are you going to be using them for? They look quite light for the price (£330 I guess you've seen?). They're not the most aero though - and unless you're really into your hills you might end up pining for something a bit more aero. One example of a good all-rounder that's also more aero is the American Classic Victory 30 - usually around the same price.

Are the Miche Race wheels knackered or are they just "not light enough"? If so I'd man up and keep them - but consider some lighter tyres as many stock bikes come with 250-300 gram tyres on. That will likely make more difference - I certainly wouldn't buy the wheels and then totally disregard what rubber I had on the bike. Such examples might include Panaracer Race Type L, Schwalbe Ultremo or Continental GP4000. Oh, and latex tubes knock a bit off rolling resistance too.

Is that enough info to digest in one go?

    Thanks PianoMan,

I plan on doing a number of sportives, club runs and training in the Surrey Hills. I have the rubber sorted - GP4000s. So i may well have a look at the American Classic's.

The ksyrium equipe 2011s are £250 at Merlin Cycles at the moment. As an all-round decent level upgrade they seem pretty good to me. Good write up in Cycling Plus (8/10) too.
