custom graphics

i have 2 custom bike builds going on at the mo and need some custom vinyl decals producing.
anyone know what format i need to save files as and also the best program?
i have been told that adobe illustrator can create the files required but can i bugger as like use it for what i need. any advice please!

    TBH it depends on what the people producing the graphics need.

    what format do the need?

    I used Slik Graphics, they weren't too bothered about format, in the end I just sent them a jpeg with a size calibrating ruler on them, went fine.

    I'd hazard a guess that most places can accept your designs in almost any format, then turn them into whatever they need.
