CB Joplin 3 Seatpost Problem

I bought a Joblin seatpost about 8 months ago, It's well looked after and kept clean (never stripped it down to clean yet though). Towards the end of last sunday's muddy ride I noticed that when it was in the fully upright position it was moving down about 3/4" when I sat on it and then back up when I took weight off the seat. Tried lowering and then releasing about 20 times to see if this would work, no difference. Will taking it apart and cleaning it make any difference or will it need a professional service?

They are really easy to strip down and clean/regrease so why not give it a go?0
