Front end flex

Hi, I am riding a Planet X Ti race frame with PX carbon forks, PX carbon stem and FSA wing bars (the cheapy alu ones) and am getting a lot of front end flex when sprinting.

Which of the above would you upgrade to solve the problem? I think the flex is from the handlebars themselves but not sure.

Any recommendations?

  • Changed my PX forks for a set of Deda wave and the result has been significant. Better tracking,no flex and more importantly the stem finally stayed put!

I think its about time Planet X addressed these concerns and queries as they seem to pop up to often. I appreciate it does not affect everyone, but it would seem its causing some perhaps negativity towards them and is being referred to all to often now.

Ive just ordered an SL Pro and am now regretting ordering it in red as if im going to need to change the forks then IMO id rather stick with black so it matches. Im 82kg and as the latest bike radar review of the sl pro stated wouldn't consider myself a light weight long distance spinner so am concerned about this before the bike has even arrived.

  • Just to clarify, I didnt change the forks soley or indeed primarily because of flex ( if at all) . I changed it as the headset would never stay fixed despite various efforts.

As far as flex is concerned, I'm about 11.5 -12 stone and the only problems I encountered aside from the above was the fact the bike is so light that the front end can get snatched in high sidewinds. But that is not unique to PX.

Also, and this is probably down to my technique more than anything else, when I'm really hammering it for a sprint and on the drops ( at one of those speed register thingies) that back wheel skips around the 35-38mph mark..again,probably me.

The one thing I have noticed is the fact the the PX comes with a lot of spacers and subsequently the amount of steerer tube "exposed" is quite significant. I got rid of some of the spacers so maybe that reduces the flex. I certainly didnt feel like I was riding a bike made of jelly . And for the record I have carbon stem and bars as well.

dont panic. You will love the bike.
