Giant Anthem X2 2010 Brake Pad replacement

Hi all

2 quick questions:

I need to replace the pads on my Giant Anthem X2 (2010). I am in Afghanistan at the moment so I can't see the bike or get the spec from the internet, but can anydoby let me know what pads I need. I know they are XT brakes, but I don't know what version.

Can anybody recommend a good brand? Is it best to stick with Shimano or go for a cheaper alternative, such as Clarks?
