Two great stages so far for this race.

1st stage was won by Sagan with a great little hill then a sweet and swift descent. Di Luca was attacking but not getting away and Nibali was right on his wheel. Liquigas were all over the front - amazing work. The video of the last kms is worth a watch:

2nd stage had a long climb witha summit finish won by Cunego. I would like to say he rode well but he basically sucked every wheel he could until the last 200m. Eros, Sella and Sacrponi were the main guys riding. Sagan did a great ride and came in 2secs down. Scarponi looked so at ease drilling it on the front. Nibali over 7mins back. Again the last kms are worth a watch.

Photos Sirotti or Bettini.

Great Britain National Team is riding. Geraint Thomas is riding for them for some reason as is Kennaugh. Best placed rider is Kennaugh at nearly 2mins back. The team as a whole is 13th out of 14

  • I would say Cunego rode perfectly - he had team mate Scarponi up front, then when the front group was caught, Scarponi worked for him, and he hit the front exactly when he needed to.

Stage two was awesome. Alessandro De Marchi had a cracking ride and its a real shame he was caught in the end.

Rai Sports has a some nice coverage too.. Not this 15min guff but a whole hour of solid racing,,

  • Just caught up, having had another hours worth of coverage from RAI SPORT 2.
They have 2 Italian races today.
Did an English interview with Swifty before the start.
Unfortunately, they are having trouble with the UK champs name, so he got his lead out from Thomas Geraint!

Also just to say the forementioned tv channel is advertising the Strade Bianche, T-A and Milan-SR live.
The latters live coverage appears to be increasing from < 2hours, to an unbelievable 4 hours!
Good times ahead from our Italian hosts. :)

  • Scarponi takes the final stage on the dirt road followed closely by Cunego and Sagan, but enough for Sagan to take the overall.

3 out of 5 stages go to Sagan, plus the overall. Excellent form going into Paris Nice.

  • What a cracking race it was to watch, too. 4 uphill finishes in the 500-700m range.
Yesterday's was a mini epic. Scarponi and Serpa attacking Sagan, who held onto the overall by the skin of his teeth.
The last climb was about 4 and a half kms long at a fairly steady gradient, around the 7% mark, I'm guessing.
It even topped off with 200 metres of Strade Bianche!
    More like this, please.
(Classica Sardinia rounds it off, tonight.)
