New hardtail! Whyte 905, On One 456 XT or other?

Hi guys,

I started a topic a while ago asking for recommendations for a full-suss bike. However, I've now decided against this and am definitely going to go for a hardtail and hoping to get it next week. This is mainly due to the better specs for the money.

My new dilema is which of the following should I opt for Whyte 905 or On One 456 XT? Both look pretty good and I've read some favourable reviews. However, I do not live near stockists for either brand which is pretty annoying. So any input is valuable.

Bearing in mind the On One is slightly cheaper so I would also be able to afford some new pedals and shoes with the price difference between that and the Whyte.

Alternatively, fire away with different suggestions.

Post your opinions!

I have had a test ride of the 2011 Whyte 901 and what a fantastic bike it is. The shop didnt have a 905 but if it is any better than the 901 i tried then it would have to be THE ONE. Thing is the 901 is so good it is hard to justify all the extra money for the 905. Think i might prefer the paint job of the 905. If you get one id be interested what you think of it !

Forgot to ask why you changed your mind on full sus. My dilemma is between 901 or 905 or Giant Anthem

Basically, alot more for your money. As i'm getting back into riding I'll give it a year or two then probably go for a high-end full-suss as an upgrade depending on how much I ride.
Quite looking forward to getting a bike again. Gonna try the Whyte this weekend, but I very much think its going to be the one.

Just not sure whether to get the 456 XT and have spare cash for shoes pedals etc. This is the main dilema i suppose.

The last bike shop i went into offered me 10 per cent off any bike without me asking. The owner told me he offered it because almost any bike shop will knock 10 per cent off . That would give you your shoes etc. Or if you like it say youll have it if they throw in shoes and pedals. Its worth asking.

The C456 is a whole lot nicer in the "flesh" than the pics - I promise! I really couldn't get used to it based on the pics but seeing one in the showroom - it's a mean looking beast. You won't go far wrong with it, though the Whyte's nice too. Try to ride them both if you can...

Got 2011 Whyte 905 from Leisure Lakes and they included decent shoes and pedals in price.

If you call up on-one you can get the new red/black carbon frame as well if the plain black doesn't float yer boat.
