Given that Sidi are sooo expensive now.

Any Gaerne users?

Fancy something like the Mythos Carbon

  • I got told sizing was very Sidi like when I enquired with Chain Reaction.

Also emailed the importers for sizing guide earlier this week but no reply yet (think there were doing a big trade show this week so guess that is why I've not heard from them yet).

I like the look of their range, especially doing shoes that are ratchet free (still can't beat my 13 y/o 3 strap Carnac Elipses)...
  • I have just purchased some gaerne carbon gmyst on special offer at CRC.

I haven't used them in anger as yet but they appear to be a well made, high quality and for me at least super comfy good fit (usually 8.5 to 9 got these in a 43).

The heel area grips nice and tight - and they have a bit more width to them than the standard Sidi.

I would say they are of comparable quality to the Sidi's.
  • upsetter, what was the price? They have one pair listed at £107 which don't have carbon in the title. Though the pic appears to be a carbon sole?

How are Sidi expensive? I ordered a pair of Sidi Ergo 2 Carbon Lite Vernice from PBK this week. I think they were around £260 or so, roughly the same you'd pay for a pair of Lake CX401s.

I dunno - seems pretty expensive to me as you can get Lake CX400s for £150 at Rutland: http://www.rutlandcycling.com/31594/Lake-CX400---White---Road-Shoes.html

Not the same shoe, but pretty close. That discount is amazing - good find! :)

    Well, here's a clue. They are £260.

So, around £60 more than the Gaerne Mythos Carbon.

£100 more than some of the other Gaerne Carbon.

£130 more than some of the Gaerne clearout carbons.

    So, yes, expensive ;)

You could have saved £30 at Ribble btw.

But arguably a better shoe...and expense is relative to the size of my wife's bonus

I couldn't mate, I did look though. The problem is I take a 47 in Sidi and they only sell 46 and below :(
  • How do you know they're better?

  • bendertherobot - they were around £150 I think - url below:

As i said earlier - feel very comfortable and IMO have better padding than the SIDI's I had (Pro 5's i think - similar price, sold them to buy the Gaerne's).

Well worth the money - very nice shoe.

To be fair, I don't. I've never tried them. They may be OK. But logically, I doubt they are better than the top of the range shoe from one of the best road shoe manufacturers in the World.

I accept I could be wrong though.

You may well be, I'll tell you shortly, having worn Ergo 2, Genius 6.6 and Lazer's.

Thanks mate, ordered the £107 ones on the basis of being exactly the same pic. Not expecting carbon, so will be interesting to see what turns up!

If they're good, gonna use them for commuting then trade my Sidis for some of the G.Mythos.

My Ergo 2 have just arrived. They look amazing - fit very comfortably as well. Good timing - my new Ribble Winter Trainer just arrived on the same van! :D
