help needed please :D

im just in the process of changing to a 1x10 gearing, went to fit my chainring guide and found my bb had no cups to remove, alittle reading and found its a shimano press fit bb?

does this mean i cant fit this chain guide?
can this type of bb be removed without causing damage?
is my frame threaded to allow the other type bb with cups to be installed?

iv done a search but couldn't find much

also with the chain shortened do you think the chain will slip off the front easily.(iv fitted a proper e13 single speed cog)

thanks

nope there are no BB mounted devices available.

it also looks like a direct mount front mech?

Nick or some else - can you expalin what is a press-fitt BB?

All BBs I've come across are have threaded cups, so these one don't?

Or is there some extra gubbins - the BB on my 2009 carbon framed specialized looks like it has some extra stuff between the frame BB and shimano cups - is this what is being refferred to?
  • a press fit BB works just like your headset. the shell is pressed into the frame which is a larger diameter than normal threaded types. The bearings are then pressed into this shell casing. Works the same as a HT BB but the bit with the bearings in is inside the frame

ok. seen the link - look like the hollow tech II cups but no threads ... yet still different to what I have on my spec. frame.

seems the only special tool is a hammer :) (the press can be made from trheaded rod, steel plates and a pair of nuts).

I am guessing I have the hollowtech II cups but there is some outer "tube" they fit into that fits into the frame - mine is M762 although the bike next up in the range uses BB-91, OS, press in bearing.

    hmmmmm......

yep that is an other standard.

    like http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-hel ... nd-removal
and there are variations on that as well.
