What seat collar do you use...??

I just broke the standard issue seat clamp that came with my Focus. This one:

Tightening it up with a new seatpost (alu/carbon wrap), the thing dethreaded.

This is a good thing as I never liked the look of it, a bit nondescript, cheap and nasty.

I know seat collars are largely functional items, but are there any cool ones that might go nicely with a midnight blue carbon frame? (It's a darker frame than the pics in the link suggest).

Strength is a bonus but not a dealbreaker at 63kgs.

And I'd prefer an allen key version, to give me the option of locking it up for a few mins if I needed to. It has a lovely new Arione on it now which I wouldn't mind keeping.

Oh, and 27.2 is seatpost size. Incidentally, what's the seat collar diameter I'm looking for, for this?

Any hints, tips, suggestions, advice, tuppence-worth much appreciated.

Thanks!

Expect seatcollar size is 31.8mm. One of the best in Campagnolo - screw is angled to get maximum thread engagement. Alternatively, KCNC do some nice lightweight ones. The best way to prevent stripping is to use a torque-wrench to tighten and carbon assembly paste to increase grip.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • M-Dawg, that's interesting as it's a Campy equipped bike.

Would a LBS lend me a torque-wrench or is it a worthwhile investment...??

    Ta muchly!
  • Evidently it's a good purchase :P

Second the carbon assembly paste, is great for all post if you're as fat as I am to prevent slippage. My handlebars were unmovable once i'd done the stem bolts up with my fingers!!!!

The thomson ones are rather pretty but as above my choice would be a campagnolo one.
  • I have a Thomson seat clamp holding a Thomson Masterpiece seatpost in a Planet X SL Pro.

I previously had had problems with a single bolt not being able to clamp tight enough, eventually breaking the bolt. I switched to an Exotic 31.8/34.9 two bolt clamp which is well made but looks bulky. The Thomson clamp looks nice and neat and requires relatively low torque (~3Nm) to clamp the post tightly without slipping, and I'm a fair bit heavier than you.
