Hi

I'm looking to purchase a stand for my bike (2010 Trek 2.3). It's mainly to ensure I don't bang into everything else in the garage when I'm cleaning it.

Anyone help? I'm not looking to spend over £100. Will this give me something durable which doesn't move whilst giving it a good scrub.

Thanks
Kevin

I've got the Bike Tools Workstand from Merlin (£65). Really great workstand, and feels very well made, in fact I was really surprised how good quality this thing is.

What did you think to the Ribble stand? I have decided that I need a stand and this seems to be the best value.

All these stands are very similar, just a tripod affair with the same kind of clamp, which will be the first thing to break ... and yes I do have one.

I think this one is both cheaper, and a better design:

    Very short on stock though...

It's the first stand I have had so hard to say how it compares but seems pretty solid to me and beats using the turbo trainer on the dining room table!

I got the Ribble stand when it was just under £50. Really surprised by how sturdy the thing is. Bargain IME.

I've got the ribble one on order, hopefully being posted today. It's currently £52 I think, so pretty cheap. I got to the point where I was sick of trying to inder gears upside down, or lifting the back wheel and causing a nice rubber skid mark on the kitchen floor as I forgot to stop the wheel spinning.

That Rose one looks a bargain. Do the feet fold up for storage, or do you have to take it to bits?

The Ribble one folds up completely in about 20 seconds, which is quite handy if you're pushed for space.

I am pushed for space at the moment, which is one reason why I like the Ribble one. Apparently there's a steel one on there for the same price, but I don't think it folds. If I had a garage i'd have considered that.

Is Rose a reputable site? I came across it the other week looking for some bits, and thought it looks a bit shady.

The Ribble one is far stronger than the other tat I looked at. Good strong tubes and collars, good strong clamp. It folds up very small, very quickly.

Used for both my bikes, indexing, deep cleaning, general fettling and lubing - just clamp the seat post if working on a carbon bike.

But my seatpost is carbon too !

Actually I think carbon fibre is tougher than many think, I've washed mine with water and soap and it didn't melt

I even clamped my "not recommended for carbon posts" beam rack onto my carbon post loaded it with panniers and rode across the pave of Belgium without it snapping, exploding, unwinding etc. Cleaver stuff.

The Ribble one looks to be the same as the Edin Bike Co-op one which I have. It folds away quickly and adjusts easily.

(just checked and it is not on their website anymore!!)

I bought a wall-mounted clamp @ Xmas from Inmotion Products Ltd. Cost just under £50. The thinking was, I am clumsy enugh to tip over a free-standing clamp and it would take up less space on a wall. Nearly right, it does stick out a bit :( and I managed to bash my head on it :o It is very solid.

Big +1 for the Ribble workstand. Must have had mine for about 6 years now, used on MTB and road bikes...
Still going strong, currently in my lounge holding my new frame

Another +1 for that Ribble stand. Had one for about a year & have used it on road, hybrid & MTB's- highly recommended. It's a lot tougher-looking in real life than in their photo.

    Just digging this up...

Owners of the Ribble one, does your have the gold coloured metal head assembly as shown in the picture or is it all black plastic?
  • Huge +1 for the Ribble stand. I've had one for a couple of years now. I'm constantly using it for routine maintenance on all my bikes, and also used it during a full restoration and conversion of an 80's Peugeot. Held the frame and forks perfectly during sanding etc.
Very sturdy, very easy to adjust, and very easy to put up and take down.

The clamp and the head assembly (that has the serrated teeth) is black on mine. A seriously impressive bit of kit that is now a dizzy £52.76 at Ribble. I find that I cannot adjust gears with or without a stand but at least my back doesn't ache ! :D
